AMP Annual Meeting
Kevin O’Connor, M.D.
Chair
Mayo
Our meeting this November 15th promises to have
something for everyone. In this time of change and uncertainty, we are all concerned
about the future. Defining the place of dual training in the minds of our professions’
leadership; developing excellent and integrated training in traditionally separated
specialty areas; defining what it is that we can legitimately do better than singly
trained specialists and obtaining appropriate reimbursement for the care we deliver
are some of the issues important to us all. We hope that our half-day get together
will provide a "safe holding environment" to broach these topics and arrive at
optimistic but tempered-with-truth solutions.
Lee Tynes, director of Medicine-Psychiatry training
at Tulane has invited a panel of his colleagues who also direct dual training
programs across the country to address training and economic issues relevant to
Medical Psychiatry residencies. We expect this will be a lively presentation with
ample opportunity for discussion and debate.
Rick Malis will present the results of a survey
on dual training that Caroline Carney and he conducted.
Dan Winsted, chairman at Tulane will comment on
the survey and peer into his crystal ball and provide us with his perspectives
on our future.
Two residents will present clinical cases and senior
discussants will provide us with illuminating differential diagnoses.
Finally Bill Yates, President of the Association
will briefly comment on the meeting and on his year as President. A poster session
and wine and cheese reception will follow.
